In 2012, the nation celebrates the Diamond Jubilee - 60 years of our Queen's reign.  It is the intention that the village marks the event with a number of events

Sunday June 3rd
Currently the main celebration is planned to coincide with the national 'Big Lunch' and is shaping up to be a BYO 'Party in the Park', with lots of fun and games, music - the aim is something for everyone.
The next meeting of the working party is due to be on 12th January at the Black Horse - if you are not able to come but would like your ideas to be included, please get in touch
These are the notes from the steering group meeting:

The objective of the meeting was to, assess support for the day, come up with a theme, and decide the format of the day, with details and 'wish list' items as secondary matters to be tied up as things move forward.

After extensive discussions, it was agreed that the most important thing was that the event should be all inclusive - absolutely everyone in the village will be welcome to come and everyone should have LOTS OF FUN.

The working name is 'Party in the Park' and the event would be centred at the playing field, on the day designated as the 'Big Lunch' day for the national celebrations on Sunday 3rd June.

The event will be 3pm until around midnight and the broad format will be a BYO picnic (hopefully with food to buy too supplied by village groups (e.g. bbq by cubs/scouts), with music throughout the day of one form or another. The overall theme will be 'Through the decades' with people being encouraged to dress up and the bands / music playing to reflect this theme.

The necessities are a marquee and the pavilion.

Other issues arising from the 'brain storm' for further consideration and agreement are:

·         Fancy dress parade / competition for the children

·         A float parade supported by local organisations/business

·         Entertainment for younger people in the village, in age appropriate  breakdowns

·         Local bands that play in local venues

·         Fireworks / laser lights

·         Fairground equipment as per Thurning feast

·         A children's disco

·         Skate park . bouncy castle

·         Sibson parachutists

·         Games for children

·         A village logo for the event

The most important factor to the success of the event is the commitment of village groups to drive the thing forward - without the demonstration of firm commitment, the parish council will be unable to commit funds to the party. This is an opportunity for fund raising - it could generate sizable income for some village groups.

The next meeting is 12th January, 8pm, Black Horse

 Action points:

  • Parish Council to agree budget
  • SR to cost skate park
  • RN to contact band contacts
  • SR to ask school if children could design a Nassington Jubilee Logo
